Holly River Bath and Body
Nature's Skin Care Products and Miller's Milled Soap

In 1998, as a part of a Family Christmas present, we made our first bars of French Milled Soap. By using a cold process method of making basic soap, we found that we could make a very mild cleansing soap, not only that, but we could pronounce the names of the ingredients. We use pure water from the Holly River watershed. This makes the soap soft. Our tallow is twice rendered, this allows us to ensure that the tallow is free of inpurities that may cause the tallow to spoil. The water and tallow are held together with basic lye. This is the same approach that many of our Grandparents used years ago. This method, along with the proper ratio, creates what is known as Homesteaders Soap. This method is not cooked, but combined when the tallow and lye are at the proper temperatures. Once the soap hardens, it is milled down to fine curls of soap. These are then mixed with more water from the Holly and the fragrances and other additives are added. One soap to try is our Witch Hazel Soap. There is no alcohol in this soap. The Witch Hazel ingredient is from our yard. The bush grows here and we steep the tea from the leaves, this gives a pure Witch Hazel Tea. Our soaps also have the glycerine still in them! Major soap (detergent soap) companies remove the glycerine and resell it as a separate product. We do not. This gives our soap a soft, silky feeling. REMEMBER our soaps like to be used. They are a useful soap, not a decorative soap.
In addition to our fine soaps, our handcreams were born along the same lines. Around a year later, in an attempt to find out what was in basic hand cream, we came across a near perfect recipe for hand cream. After altering it to better suit us, it turns out to be a basic emullsion of beeswax, water (from the Holly River of course) and blended vegetable oils. This provides a very rich and creamy hand cream. As you can tell, we do not add any preservatives so there is a shelf life. However, our hand cream, like our soap, likes to be used. We package the hand cream in sizes that you can use. We offer a line of fragrances to match our bath salts and nine of our soaps so you can mix and match your own selection. Or you can create your own Hillbilly Hunny Bath Tubs. This is a new product located on our Lip Balms/Gloss and Packages page.
